Mr. & Mrs. Dan Delavan

Their Burden:

We live in America: “The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.” While that motto sends chills up and down our spines, there is a far greater issue that we must face: Does the USA need revival?

The 2001 census estimates our population at 284,796,887 people. Even if 25% could be considered truly born again, that would leave 213,597,665 who do not know Christ. We must truly say that America is a great mission field that needs to be reached, not a Christian nation that needs revival.

One corner of that mission field is a State called Maine. With a population of 1,286,670, a 25% Christian figure would leave 965,002 people in the State who need to know our Savior.

As we have lived and worked in this great United States, we have become more and more convinced both of the spiritual needs of people and of the opportunities to meet those needs. We believe that God’s plan for meeting spiritual needs is fulfilled through establishing Bible-preaching and teaching, disciple-making local churches. Would you pray with us about this need and consider joining us in the awesome responsibility that God has given us to “make disciples of all nations.”

Their Testimony:

Betsy and I are excited about the way that the Lord has prepared and called us for His service. Dan grew up on a dairy farm in NY with Christian parents who loved God and lived faithful Christian lives. Betsy was raised in Augusta, Maine, also on a dairy farm. Because of church attendance and faithful teaching of the Bible, we both came to know Christ as savior at an early age.

Through Christian service in High School, the Lord guided us both to attend Bible College, where we prepared for ministry, met each other, and then were married in 1985.

We saw the Lord develop and use us through our lay ministry at First Baptist Church in Cincinnatus, NY through youth ministry, a deacon and wife caring ministry, and a discipleship ministry.

Missions had never been far from our minds, with several close family members being career missionaries. We also were involved in a missions trip to Jamaica in 1985. With this background, the Lord clearly showed us that He had prepared us for a ministry in missions, and was now sending us into His harvest field. The leaders and congregation of First Baptist Church recognized that call and have sent us into a church-planting ministry in New England.
